Suspect Arrested In Union Street Incident

Saint John police have identified the suspect in a weapons-related incident uptown on July 24th.

A large police response followed a report of a person yelling and pointing a handgun in the area of Wentworth and Union streets around 8 p.m.

The incident last more than four hours and resulted in traffic closures in the area.

Around 1 a.m. Thursday, police said they arrested a 35-year-old man after receiving a tip from the public.

He was held for a court appearance where he was charged with two counts of assault with a weapon and one count of possession of a weapon for a purpose dangerous to the public peace.

The accused is due back in court on Monday.
