Sussex Mountie charged with distributing intimate images

A year-long investigation has led to charges against a member of the Sussex RCMP.

Const. Jonathan Murphy is charged with distributing intimate images without consent and breach of trust by a public officer.

In a news release on Wednesday, the Serious Incident Response Team said the incident allegedly took place in April 2023.

The team, also known as SiRT, received a referral from RCMP J Division on Jan. 29, 2024.

An investigation summary released by SiRT said the officer allegedly took and shared images of a male in custody without his knowledge.

Murphy, who was charged on Wednesday, is scheduled to appear in court on Feb. 28.

SiRT investigates all matters that involve death, serious injury, sexual assault and intimate partner violence, or other matters of public interest that may have arisen from the actions of any New Brunswick police officer.
