A task force is being established by the Gallant government to examine the rising costs in the workers compensation system.
Chambers of Commerce in Moncton, Fredericton and Saint John launched a letter-writing campaign this week urging members to contact the province over a 33 percent jump in premiums this year alone.
Worksafe NB acting president and CEO Tim Peterson says stakeholders came together recently to discuss the situation and will meet again in June.
“We want to try and enhance people’s understanding of the system and where some of the pressures are coming from. Getting everyone on board with the notion of working together to make things more sustainable,” he notes.
The auditor general will also be conducting a value-for-money audit of Worksafe NB.
Peterson says the Crown corporation will fully cooperate in that review which could up taking eight months to complete.
