Taxi Driver Pulls Motorist From Burning Vehicle After Crash

A taxi driver pulled an unconscious driver from a burning vehicle in Saint John after a collision, according to police.

Staff Sgt. Sean Rocca said emergency crews were called to a collision on Douglas Avenue shortly after 5 a.m. Saturday.

Rocca said a car travelling northbound crossed into the oncoming lane and hit a parked vehicle.

The car then caught fire with the driver still inside the vehicle, he said.

“A taxi driver came upon the accident, called 911, and then pulled the unconscious driver from the Ford Fusion,” Rocca said in an email on Sunday.

The driver was transported to the hospital in serious condition, according to fire officials. Rocca said there is no update on their condition at this time.

Investigators are still trying to figure out the cause of the crash.
