Tenant Displaced By West Side Fire

No injuries have been reported after a fire in a west Saint John apartment building.

Platoon Chief Josh Hennessy says crews were called to the building on City Line on Wednesday afternoon.

“Upon arrival, crews found heavy smoke and flame coming from a basement unit in the 12-unit, three-storey residential structure,” Hennessy said.

One person had to be rescued from the apartment building by firefighters, said Hennessy.

“The unit that was on fire did sustain heavy damage and the tenant did have to be displaced,” he said.

Hennessy said the cause of the fire has been deemed accidental.

Two dozen firefighters responded to the scene, he said.
