Tent encampment fire not believed to be suspicious: police

No injuries have been reported after an overnight fire at a tent encampment in Saint John.

First responders were called to an area near the Somerset Street overpass early Wednesday.

It was reported that a number of tents in the area were on fire.

“The fire is not currently believed to be suspicious however the matter is still under investigation,” Acting Staff Sgt. Matt Weir of the Saint John Police Force said in an email.

Weir encouraged anyone who may have information to contact police at 506-648-3333 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
