Duane Squires says the timing of the Mayor’s comments on salaries didn’t help.
Squires tells us when the discussion of salaries comes out during negotiations, people are quite angry.
He says the rank and file feel like his comments over salaries, pensions and benefits mean the Mayor doesn’t understand the job of a police officer and are more worried about the dollar.
Squires also notes Saint John police officers respond to horrible calls ranging from murders to suicides and infant deaths.
Squires says Mayor Darling has been invited to join the City police for a ride-a-long so he can see first hand what the job is like.
