This Program Helps Cancer Survivors Get Back To Work

The name says it all.

The Stay Strong program is a free 12-week exercise program for people of all ages getting chemotherapy, radiation and hormonal therapy treatment for various cancers.

The program is offered at the Saint John Regional Y by Horizon Health.

Mary Gellatly, who is a Saint John Police constable, finished treatment in the summer for breast cancer and is taking the program now.

She says being involved was very beneficial for her telling us she is now back to work and she’s not sure she would be if she hadn’t taken the program.

Gellatly is now considered cancer-free but will need to check in with her oncologist every three months for the next five years.

She tells us she feels like she’s in bettter physical condition now compared to when she was diagnosed.
