Thousands Of Property Owners Get Lower Tax Assessments

The latest figures on property tax reassessments have revealed reductions of more than $34 million for just over a thousand home owners in Saint John with 298 in Moncton receiving $12 million in reductions.

271 property owners in Rothesay have seen reductions of $12 million and 178 in Quispamsis with reassessments being lowered by over $8 million.

In Dieppe, 280 property owners have had their assessments lowered by $8.2 million and in Sackville, there have been $2.4 million in reductions for 82 property owners.

Saint John East M-L-A Glen Savoie says if the provincial government finds itself under financial pressure because of the reassessments, it has no one else to blame but itself because of spending too much money.

Savoie claims the province has imposed $750 million in new taxes but erased that with additional spending of $900 million.
