Common Council passed its $152.6-million budget on Monday with a vote of 7-3.
The budget includes the $1.25-million cuts each to police and fire services and Deputy Mayor Shirley McAlary, Councillors Gerry Lowe and John Mackenzie all voted against.
Deputy Mayor McAlary stated until she knew the full impact on protective and other services she couldn’t say yes.
Lowe called for an amalgamation of police, fire and recreation services with the outlying communities along with fair taxation and Mackenzie wants to see something in the budget about growth citing the old proverb, you can’t cut your way to prosperity.
