Thursday Morning Sports For January 12th

The Saint John Riptide remain unbeaten at home after a 125-112 win over Orangeville and are now 5 and 1. Anthony Anderson scored 26 points and Gabe Freeman had 23 while going 8 for 9 from the free throw line. The Riptide will host Cape Breton tomorrow night at Harbour Station.

In the NBA, it was Philadelphia 98 New York 97……Oklahoma City 103 Memphis 95….Minnesota 119 Houston 105……Los Angeles Clippers 105 Orlando 96 and Portland 102 Cleveland 86.

In the NHL, Philip Danault and rookie Arturri Lehkonen each scored twice in Montreal’s 7-4 win over Winnipeg….Alex Ovechkin scored twice in Washington’s 5-2 win over Pittsburgh…In other play, it was Florida over the Islanders 2-1 and Calgary got by San Jose 3-2.

Rookies Auston Matthews of the Leafs and Patrik Laine of the Jets are among 40 players selected to play in the NHL’s All-Star game. The Chicago Blackhawks led the league with four players chosen.

It’s believed the San Diego Chargers will be announcing as early as today they’re relocating to Los Angeles where they began back in 1960 in the old American Football League. Their first quarterback was Jack Kemp who later became a U.S. Congressman and ran as a Vice-President candidate with Republican Bob Dole against then President Bill Clinton in 1996.
