In the Majors, the atmosphere resembled a playoff series and Jayson Werth singled in the winning run with two outs in the 12th inning to give Washington a 5-4 win over the Chicago Cubs….The Blue Jays are on a roll with a 7-2 win over Philadelphia…..Josh Donaldson hit his 16th homer of the season and made a couple of sparkling plays in the field at third base…..Another strong pitching performance by knuckleballer Steven Wright in Boston’s 6-4 win over Baltimore….The O’s and Red Sox are tied for first in the A-L East and the Yankees lost to Colorado 5-3. In other play, it was San Diego 6 Miami 3…Los Angeles Dodgers 3 Arizona 2….San Francisco 10 Milwaukee 1….Atlanta 9 Cincinnati 8 (13 innings)…..Tampa Bay 3 Seattle 2 (13 innings)…..NY Mets 11 Pittsburgh 2….Houston 4 St. Louis 1….Chicago White Sox 5 Detroit 3….Kansas City 9 Cleveland 4….Los Angeles Angels 10 Minnesota 2 and Texas 7 Oakland 5.

In New Brunswick Senior League baseball tonight, The Saint John Alpines are back in action after a 2 week break hosting the Fredericton Royals in a 7:30 start at Memorial Field. Dan Taylor is expected to get the start for Saint John.

At Euro 2016, it was Slovakia edging Russia 2-1…..France shut out Albania 2-0 with Romania and Switzerland tying 1-1.

Hundreds of family, friends and fans gathered at Detroit’s Cathedral of the Most Blessed Sacrament to say a final goodbye to Mr. Hockey, Gordie Howe. Gordie’s youngest son, Dr. Murray Howe, delivered the eulogy, telling the gathering during his final days his Dad told him that he hopes there’s a good hockey team in heaven, to which Murray replied “once you join the team, they won’t just be good, they will be great”. Murray said his father was a selfless man who never accepted credit for any of his accomplishments, instead giving credit to God, his family, friends, teammates and coaches.
