Thursday Morning Sports For September 10th

David Ortiz hit the 498th home run of his career as the Red Sox beat up on the Blue Jays 10-4…The Yankees failed to take advantage, losing 5-3 to Baltimore. The Jays take a one and a half game lead into their big 4 game series against the Yankees beginning tonight in New York. David Price will start for the Jays against Luis Severino for the Yankees.

In the National League, The New York Mets got a key two run homer in the 8th inning by Yeonis Cespedes to sweep Washington 5-3 and take a 7 game lead in the East. Cespedes leads the league in slugging percentage with 36 R-B-I’s since being traded to the Mets.

The NFL regular season starts tonight with the New England Patriots hosting the Pittsburgh Steelers. NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell will not be on hand in the aftermath of the court decision nullifying the 4 game suspension he handed Patriots quarterback Tom Brady for the deflated footballs that were used in the A-F-C championship game last January against Indianapolis.
