Thursday Morning Sports For September 4th

The Saint John Alpines were eliminated from the New Brunswick Senior League playoffs, losing 4-1 to the Moncton Mets.

In the Majors, Baltimore blanked Cincinnati 6-0 to keep its choke hold on the American League East….The Yankees beat Boston 5-1 and the Jays knocked off Tampa Bay 7-4…..The Yankees are four games out of a wildcard playoff spot and the Jays are 4 and a half out.

In a battle of playoff contenders in the A-L West, Felix Hernandez outdueled Jon Lester as the Seattle Mariners got by the Oakland A’s 2-1. The West leading Los Angeles Angels failed to gain any ground on the A’s, losing again to Houston 4-1.

In the National League Central, St. Louis increased its lead over Milwaukee to 3 games with 1-0 shutout of Pittsburgh……The only run of the game was scored in the bottom of the 9th.

In the River Valley Oldtimers League, Home Hardware over the Molson Merchants 7-3 to take a two games to one lead in the best of 5 semi final.

At the U.S. Open, it took 3 and a half hours but Novak Djokovic defeated Andy Murray in quarter final play.
