Tips To Help You Avoid Getting Scammed

11 years ago March was designated Fraud Prevention Month, with the goal of teaching Canadians how to recognize, report and stop fraud.

The initiative is spearheaded by the Competition Bureau of Canada, and it’s a unique effort that combines more than 125 law enforcement agencies, public and private sector organizations to combat fraud.

The Bureau has some tips on how to reduce your risk of being scammed, including doing thorough research on a company or product, being cautious about deals that sound “too good to be true”, and not giving out personal or financial information to an unverified company or person.

The Competition Bureau says it’s important that anyone who is contacted by scam artists, or is a victim of fraud report their experience to the authorities.

To file a complaint call your local police and The Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre at 1-888-495-8501.
