Today Is International Women’s Day

Today marks International Women’s Day and the theme this year is #BalanceForBetter.

It is a day to honour the achievements of women and discuss areas which still need to be worked on.

The New Brunswick Federation of Labour says women — and many men — have worked hard for the gains which women and girls have achieved.

But they say many inequities still exist, such as pay inequity in the private sector, a lack of affordable quality child care, and male violence against women.

The first International Women’s Day gathering was held in Austria, Denmark, Germany and Switzerland in 1911.
