Tough Budget Deliberations At City Hall

Roads, recreation, growth are Comon Council’s priorities and those are what’s going to be reflected in the 2015 budget deliberations, according to Mayor Mel Norton.

Norton tells CHSJ News there are also some tough and time-sensitive issues like transit, policing, fire and grants given out by the city that need to be considered and that’s why they are holding a special meeting on Saturday morning to continue the talks.

That being said, Norton argues there simply isn’t endless money for transit and some decisions will have to be made with enough time for the Transit Commission to start planning routes for 2015.

Councillors were told at a special budget meeting last night than an additional 850 thousand dollars would be needed next year just to maintain the same level of bus service we now have in the city.
