Toys “R” Us in the Maritimes: Confirmed closures and a wave of uncertainty

Some Toys “R” Us stores across the Maritimes are preparing to shut their doors for good.

Shoppers have reported that official closing signs are up at the Saint John store in New Brunswick and the Dartmouth Crossing location in Nova Scotia.

In Dieppe, clearance signs and bare shelves have been observed, but the fate of this location is still up in the air.

There is also uncertainty about the company’s Fredericton location, the lone other Toys “R” Us in the region.

Confirmed shutdowns and Maritime stores with uncertain futures are both part of a wider trend of retail closures.

In recent months, there has been a noticeable rise in store closures across Canada.

Toys “R” Us declined to provide a statement on any of the confirmed or potential closures when reached by our newsroom this week.

A long-time fixture in Canadian retail since 1984, Toys “R” Us Canada has undergone several ownership changes in recent years after facing financial challenges in its American operations.

The chain continues to operate stores across the country as it adapts to a changing retail landscape.
