The company trying to build the Energy East Pipeline are one step closer to achieving their goal.
TransCanada submitted a formal notice of application to the Quebec government which puts an end to months of refusal from the company to do just that.
Quebec Environment Minister David Heurtel says that means the project will be subject to the more stringent environmental regulations in the province.

Heurtel adds TransCanada will also have to complete an environmental impact study by June 6th.
Once that is completed, he says the government will drop their application for an injunction against the pipeline.
TransCanada hopes to have final approval and all permits necessary to begin construction of the 4,600 kilometre pipeline bringing 1.1 million barrels of oil per day from Alberta, to Saint John in 2018.
