A rare feat by a trio of curlers at Thistle St. Andrews Curling Club in Saint John this week.
Vicky Mills, Donna Hawco and Debbie Boudreau scored what is known as an eight-ender on Tuesday.
Mike Buckley, general manager of the curling club, said it is comparable to a hole-in-one in golf.
“In each end, each team throws eight rocks in order to try to score points and only rocks that are within the rings score,” said Buckley.
“What has happened in this case is all eight of one team’s rocks ended up in the rings and there were no opposing rocks in the rings, therefore, all eight rocks counted toward an eight-ender.”
Curling Canada describes an eight-ender as a “very rare occurrence.” They are so rare, in fact, that the sport association recognizes teams who record a perfect score with pins and certificates.
Buckley said it has been some time since the last eight-ender, also known as a snowman, was recorded at the club.
“It’s the first one that I’ve seen here at the club in probably three or four years,” he said.
