Tuesday Morning Sports For August 17th

At the Olympics, Canada earned a spot in the quarterfinals in men’s volleyball with a win over Italy who are ranked as the 4th best team in the world and had been undefeated. The semi final in women’s soccer takes place this afternoon with Canada going up against Germany.

Seven people were injured after an elevated television camera about the size of a golf cart fell to the ground in the Olympic park. It had been suspended on cables to provide aerial shots.

In the Majors, the New York Yankees shut down the Toronto Blue Jays 1-0 as pitcher Chad Green struck out 11 in six innings and fellow rookie Aaron Judge had an RBI double…….David Ortiz hit a go ahead, two run homer in a three run sixth inning as the Boston Red Sox got by Cleveland 3-2 to extend their winning streak to four…..In the American League East, Baltimore and the Blue Jays are tied for first with the Red Sox just one game back. The Red Sox and Orioles begin a two game series tonight in Baltimore. In other play, it was Kansas City 3 Detroit 1……Miami 6 Cincinnati 3……Tampa Bay 8 San Diego 2….Texas 5 Oakland 2….Washington 5 Colorado 4…..Arizona 10 NY Mets 6……Seattle 3 Los Angeles Angels 2 and Pittsburgh 8 San Francisco 5.

The Saint John Sea Dogs rookie camp is starting up tomorrow. Players will be divided into two teams and will take part in three intrasquad games at Harbour Station tomorrow and on Thursday. Those games will be open to the public.
