In the NHL playoffs, Kevin Shattenkirk’s goal at 3:13 of overtime gave Washington a 3-2 win over Pittsburgh. The Penguins still lead the Eastern semifinal 2 games to 1. Sidney Crosby left the game after just over 5 minutes after getting cross checked to the head by Washington’s Matt Niskanen. Crosby did not return and his playing status is uncertain.
In the Majors, Manny Machado hit a homer and drove in two runs in his first game against Boston since a pitch was thrown behind his head in Baltimore over a week ago. The Orioles beat the Red Sox 5-2. Orioles center fielder Adam Jones claims he was subjected to a torrent of racial abuse during the game at Fenway Park…….The Toronto Blue Jays beat the New York Yankees 7-1. Ryan Goins hit the first two RBI’s on a sacrifice fly in the team’s 40 year history to go along with his two-run homer. A pair of runs scored on the sac fly when center fielder Jacoby Ellsbury made the catch but then ran face first into the padded wall.
