In the NHL playoffs, Kevin Shattenkirk’s goal at 3:13 of overtime gave Washington a 3-2 win over Pittsburgh. The Penguins still lead the Eastern semifinal 2 games to 1. Sidney Crosby left the game after just over 5 minutes after getting cross checked to the head by Washington’s Matt Niskanen. Crosby did not return and his playing status is uncertain.
In the Majors, Manny Machado hit a homer and drove in two runs in his first game against Boston since a pitch was thrown behind his head in Baltimore over a week ago. The Orioles beat the Red Sox 5-2. Orioles center fielder Adam Jones claims he was subjected to a torrent of racial abuse during the game at Fenway Park…….The Toronto Blue Jays beat the New York Yankees 7-1. Ryan Goins hit the first two RBI’s on a sacrifice fly in the team’s 40 year history to go along with his two-run homer. A pair of runs scored on the sac fly when center fielder Jacoby Ellsbury made the catch but then ran face first into the padded wall. The Red Sox have placed knuckleballer Steven Wright on the 10 day disabled list with a left knee sprain.
