Two arrested in Saint John drug trafficking investigation

Two people have been arrested after officers stopped a vehicle on Britain Street during a drug trafficking investigation.

The arrests happened around 2:10 p.m. on Thursday and police said a 41‑year‑old man and a 27‑year‑old woman were taken into custody without incident.

Officers seized the following items:

  • 80.87 grams of a substance believed to be fentanyl
  • 159.1 grams of a substance believed to be cocaine
  • A cellphone
  • Digital scales
  • $883.95 in cash

Police said the drugs have an estimated street value of about $40,333.

Both were arrested for possession for the purpose of trafficking fentanyl, possession for the purpose of trafficking cocaine, and possession of proceeds of crime under $5,000, according to police.

Officers said the man remains in custody and is scheduled to appear in court on Friday.

The woman was released with a court date of August 20.
