Two Child Death Reviews Completed

New Brunswick’s Child Death Review Committee has completed its reviews into the deaths of two children.

Chief Coroner Jérôme Ouellette says the first case concerned the death of a 16-year-old boy who died of a gunshot wound.

The second involved a six-month-old girl whose cause of death could not be determined but may have been associated with unsafe sleeping conditions.

Committee members made no recommendations in either case following their review.

Both families were receiving services from the Department of Social Development.

The committee reviews the deaths of all children under 19, including those who were in the legal care of Social Development, or whose families were in contact with the department within 12 months before the child’s death.
