Two Men Arrested After ‘Serious’ Assault: Police

Police say two people are facing charges after an assault and kidnapping in Saint John.

Sgt. Ron Cooper with the Saint John Police Force said the incident happened Sunday.

“The file involved a serious assault and a kidnapping at an address on the west side,” said Cooper.

Cooper said two people were arrested on Waterloo Street around 9:30 a.m. Tuesday.

Jim Hennessy, a spokesperson for the police force, said a 29-year-old man and a 33-year-old man face charges of aggravated assault, break and enter, unlawful confinement, and threats.

Hennessy said the victim, a 31-year-old man, was treated in hospital for serious but non-life threatening injuries and later released.

He said the victim and suspects “are known to each other and this is not considered a random act.”

The suspects are scheduled to appear in court Wednesday.
