Two N.B. officers to be honoured by governor general

The governor general will invest 118 appointees into the Order of Merit of the Police Forces this week.

Among the individuals being recognized for exceptional service are a current and former member of the Kennebecasis Regional Police Force.

Cpl. Eugene Belliveau is being invested as a member of the Order, while former chief Wayne Gallant is being promoted to an officer.

“The Order of Merit of the Police Forces honours the leadership and exceptional service or distinctive merit displayed by the members of Canadian police services, and recognizes their commitment to this country,” said a statement from the governor general’s office.

The main focus, said the statement, is on exceptional merit, contributions to policing, and community development.

Ceremonies are taking place on Thursday and Friday. Belliveau and Gallant will be invested on Thursday.
