Two students at the Woodlawn Learning Centre on the east side were sprayed with a substance police believe to be bear spray, with one student being taken to the Regional Hospital to be checked out and the school closing for the day because of air quality concerns.

Sgt. Dean Secord of city police tells CHSJ News the two students and two non-students got into an altercation on Monday and that’s when the students were sprayed. He says it’s believed the incident happened away from the school but the students ran back into the school afterwards.
Sgt. Secord says you can do some serious damage to humans’ eyesight with bear spray. He says its purpose is to spray animals to burn their eyes to get them away from you so you can get to safety, not for human beings to use on other human beings.
No arrests have been made at this time and it’s still an ongoing investigation.
