New Brunswick experienced back to back years of serious flooding in 2019 and 2019 and some of it was documented for an episode of the Nature of Things airing on Friday.
A film crew spent time with ‘Uber Rob’ in Darlings Island and in Sheffield/Maugerville area in April 2019.
Rob Dekany gained notoriety by using his own boat to help the islanders stranded by floodwaters.
‘Uber Rob’ and his transportation service are featured in a new episode of The Nature of Things documenting the impacts of rain.
Dekany said the film crew who worked on this episode stayed at his house.
“They filmed the whole thing from shore to boat using drone footage. It was very interesting to see the process and how much it took to make a small clip about the flood,” Dekany said.
According to Dekany, the residents of Darlings Island enjoyed having the film crew visit.
“It’s such a big deal for the Nature of Things to come here and they were just impressed that they came to do the filming of a little community in distress,” Dekany said.

The provincial government raised the Darling’s Island Road substantially in later 2019 meaning ‘Uber Rob”s ferrying services were not required last spring and he missed it.
“It’s kind of like a double-edged sword. [The flooding] brought a lot of chaos but, it also brought a lot of new friends,” Dekany said.
