Union Criticizes Province For Lack Of Funding For Educational Assistants

The President of the Union representing over 4800 education workers in the province, says a lack of funding for Educational Assistants needs to be fixed immediately.

This comes after Anglophone East School District Superintendent Gregg Ingersoll revealed 470 Educational Assistants are needed for the 2019-2020 school year, but they only have enough funding for 410.

That amounts to a shortfall of $2 million dollars.

Theresa McAllister of CUPE Local 2745 says this is the second year in a row where funding for EA’s is falling short in Anglophone East and Anglophone West.

She hopes Education Minister Dominic Cardy guarantees adequate resources for Districts, so children and workers who make inclusion possible are not left behind.
