Union President Says Privatization Of Health Network Services Will Result In Job Losses

Concerns are being raised over the potential to privatize hospital food services, environmental services and patient transportation through Vitalite and Horizon Health Networks.

CUPE Local 1252 put out a news release today, that states this will result in the loss of 280 full time equivalent positions.

President of the New Brunswick Council of Hospital Unions Norma Robinson says the health networks plan to sell off the publicly run services to Sodexo, which is a French multinational corporation.

But Robinson adds, Sodexo doesn’t have the best track record…in other provinces or in the United States…and that is going to put the ill, seniors and others at risk.

Robinson says if services were kept in house, costly and other dangerous problems, such as hospital borne infections would be avoided.
