UPDATE: Armed Standoff In U-S Capitol Building

Supporters of Donald Trump causing chaos at the Capitol building.

Reports of an armed standoff in the House chamber as Pro-Trump protestors breach the building where lawmakers were counting the Electoral College votes certifying the victory of President-Elect Joe Biden and Vice-President Elect Kamala Harris.

Some other reports indicate a rioter got into the Senate chamber to sit in the presiding officer’s chair, where Mike Pence had been earlier.

The crowd clashed with police on the steps of the Capitol Building during the joint session before storming and overrunning the Capitol Building.

Neighbouring congressional office buildings were under evacuation orders as confrontations become increasingly violent.

United States Capitol police is asking for additional law enforcement for assistance, including federal authorities.

Supporters have been heard chanting “USA” as well as waiving American and “Don’t Tread on Me” flags toward the front of the crowd.

Both Biden and Trump hit the airwaves, calling for an end to the action.
