UPDATE: Saint John home extensively damaged by fire

A home in Saint John’s north end suffered major damage following an early morning house fire.

The blaze broke out on Somerset Street between Wellesley Avenue and Magazine Street just before 6 a.m. Tuesday.

Six of the seven crews on duty responded to the call, according to a Facebook post from the city’s firefighters union.

“There were no reported injuries, unfortunately the home suffered significant damage,” said the post.

Somerset Street was closed for several hours but had reopened by 9:30 a.m. Tuesday.

There is no word yet on what may have sparked the fire but police said it is not believed to be suspicious.
