UPDATED: Armed Robbery At Sam’s Variety

Police are investigating a brazen mid-morning armed robbery at Sam’s Variety in Saint John’s south end where the suspect took off on foot.

Caution tape was put up outside of the convenience store at the corner of Carmarthen and Duke with more than a handful of police cars on scene at around 11:30am, about 20 minutes after the robbery was called in to Saint John police.

Sergeant Rick Caswell told CHSJ News on the scene that officers and the K9 unit are searching for the suspect.

“We’re still right in the initial stages on it, so we have our Major Crime unit here and we also have our officers and K9 actively searching,” says Sgt. Caswell.

“We don’t believe anybody is running the streets right now, we think they’ve taken off to find shelter somewhere at the moment.”

The Forensic Identification Section is also investigating.

There were no injuries in this robbery.

This follows another armed robbery at Sam’s Variety back in November.
