There were some tense moments in north end Saint John on Saturday as police searched for a missing five-year-old girl
Acting Sgt. Glen MacGorman says the child wandered away from a Douglas Avenue apartment building around 7 a.m.
“We began checking potential areas that a child may frequent,” says MacGorman. “Parks, playgrounds, those types of locations.”
Police, firefighters and the K-9 unit scoured the area for nearly two hours and still couldn’t find the girl.
But then, MacGorman a neighbour walking her dog spotted the child by herself in an apartment at a building next door.
Please be advised that the missing 5 year old girl from the North End of Saint John has been located and she is fine. Thank you so much to everyone who was keeping an eye out and searching for this small child. Very much appreciated.

“She had made her way in through an unlocked sliding glass door into an apartment that she was familiar with,” he says, “however, there was no one home at the time.”
“[The neighbour] had noticed the girl through the sliding glass door and approached her, and the young girl asked for her mother.”
MacGorman says there was a collective sigh of relief once they knew the girl was safe.
