UPDATED: Man wanted on Canada-wide warrant arrested

Saint John police say a man wanted on a Canada-wide warrant has been taken into custody.

Joseph Antoine was arrested in the Prince Edward Street area on Sunday morning after a brief foot pursuit.

The 26-year-old man, who was residing at a community correctional centre, was accused of breaching the conditions of his statutory release.

Antoine is serving a sentence of more than 33 months on a number of charges, including:

  • possession of a firearm with ammunition
  • possession of a weapon contrary to a prohibition order
  • flight from a peace officer
  • dangerous operation of a motor vehicle
  • obstructing a police/peace officer
  • failing to comply with a probation order
  • operation while prohibited
  • theft under $5,000
