UPDATED: Route 7 in Grand Bay-Westfield reopens

Route 7 in Grand Bay-Westfield has reopened following a crash earlier in the day on Thursday.

Emergency crews were called to the scene near kilometre marker 75 shortly after 6 a.m.

Fire Chief Troy Gautreau said it was a head-on collision involving a car and a transport truck.

Gautreau said everyone walked away from the crash without any injuries.

“However the truck ended up down a pretty steep embankment, so the recovery of that truck is what’s really taking the time,” Gautreau said in an interview Thursday morning.

In an update posted to social media around 2:15 p.m. Thursday, RCMP said the highway had reopened.

Traffic was being detoured at Exit 71 (Route 177 – Grand Bay-Westfield) and Exit 80 (Route 102 to Route 177 – Grand Bay-Westfield, Arcadia).
