Vehicle Strikes Moose On Route 7

A driver escaped serious injury after his vehicle struck a moose Thursday morning in the Welsford area.

Emergency crews were called to Route 7 southbound near kilometre marker 58 just before 7 a.m.

Dave McCready, chief of the Welsford Volunteer Fire Department, said the vehicle left the road after hitting the animal.

McCready said the man driving suffered “relatively minor” injuries and was tended to by paramedics.

The Department of Natural Resources and Energy Development also responded to take care of the moose, which McCready said had died before fire crews arrived.

He said the fire department was on the scene for about an hour.
