The Loyalist City Pawn Shop on Prince Edward Street is a total loss after an early morning fire but there are no reports of any injuries.
The three story building has collapsed and nearby buildings, including the Prince Edward Street apartments because of heavy smoke, were evacuated after the call came in around 2:30 in the morning according to City Police.
Platoon Chief Eric Garland tells us up to 20 people have been displaced. The Red Cross is also helping out those people who have been evacuated along with City Transit.
Firefighters attempting to stop the spread of fire to a couple of nearby buildings.
The fire causing a power outage to parts of the uptown. Power is still off on Prince Edward Street and Saint John Energy says it will remain off until it’s safe.
Traffic has been blocked off on Prince Edward Street as well as parts of Union Street and Waterloo.
No word on what caused the fire at this time.
