VIDEO: Crews Battle Duke Street Fire

A major fire broke out this afternoon at 124 Duke Street. Black smoke and flames were visible pouring from a red and white house.

Tara O’Toole works next door, and tells us they could see flames coming from the top of the building and they were worried about the older woman who lives there.

Fire chief Kevin Clifford explains it was a hard one to tackle adding the fire was particularly stubborn because it was caught between a roof and a second ceiling.

One woman was taken to hospital and her condition isn’t known.

The building has 2-3 units and firefighters were breaking out windows to prevent the fire from spreading to nearby buildings.

Traffic is blocked to a section of Duke Street.
