VIDEO: Police Seek Suspect In Uptown Assault

Saint John police are looking for a suspect in a bizarre assault investigation in the uptown.

The incident happened at a building in the Waterloo Street area over the noon hour last Wednesday.

Police say a 47-year-old man walking down the stairs with a cane was punched in the neck and threatened by another man.

“The suspect entered the building and reportedly complained that the victim was too slow,” police said in a news release on Monday.

According to police, the suspect later left the building, turned right, and walked north on Waterloo Street toward Richmond Street.

Police are looking for a man aged 40 to 45, between 5’6″ and 5’7″ tall, weighing between 200 and 230 pounds, with a tanned complexion, balding with short grey hair, and unshaven with grey facial stubble.

He was described as wearing a grey or green Carhart hoodie with a yellow graphic, blue jeans and sandals.

A 17-second video surveillance clip released by police on Monday showed the suspect walking from left to right on the sidewalk and taking a drink of what is believed to be water.

Anyone who can identify the suspect or has information on the incident is asked to contact Saint John police at 506-648-3333 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
