VIDEO: Vehicle Rams Compound Gate At Moncton SPCA

RCMP are continuing to investigate a break-in at the Greater Moncton SPCA that left up to $20,000 in damages.

Executive director Dan Fryer says the main damage was to the compound gate.

The main entrance was also smashed, which Fryer says has already cost around $700 just for a temporary replacement.

Luckily, they do have video cameras, and that is assisting in the investigation.

“ I was able to go through the footage itself, and was able to see a single individual, or what looked like a single individual in the vehicle, actually ram the gate itself and knock it right off,” Fryer says.

He adds that this comes at a difficult time during the COVID-19 pandemic.

“Our funding typically comes from both fundraising efforts and visitors to the shelter and adoptions. Both are significantly decreased at this time. We’ve been burning through our reserve funds, and a cost of this is a significant burden for us,” he says.

A GoFundMe page has been set up in an effort to help pay for repairs.

“It’s really not a case of not having insurance, it’s just, I don’t want to make an insurance claim and have increased premiums because of it,” Fryer says.

If you have any information on the break-in, you’re asked to report it to the RCMP.
