Over 30 years after she vanished, the family of a missing Saint John teenager is still searching for answers.
A vigil was held in King’s Square Friday night for Kim Amero, who disappeared days before her 16th birthday after going to the town fair in 1985.
There was the glow of candlelight as the sun went down, with those in attendance holding signs and wearing t-shirts with her image on them, the event coinciding with International Missing Children’s Day.

Lorraine Small, Kim’s mom, tells CHSJ News the vigil means a lot to her.
“It means that my daughter’s not being forgotten,” says Small. “My great-grandchildren know about her, and they’re here at the vigil. So it means a lot, it’s all memories.”

Her brother, Ed Amero, says it lets them know that they’re not alone.
“Every holiday, every birthday, wedding, birth, every time a body or remains are found. Our world goes into a different place,” says Amero.
Tammy Raynes has this request for those who have information about her sister Kim or any other missing person:
“There’s so many families out there going through the heartache that we’re experiencing, that if there’s somebody out there that can bring closure to a family, then please do so.”
Raynes says they’d like people to watch the six-episode podcast called Finding Kim Amero by Jaymee Splude to see if it triggers any memories. There’s also a Facebook page about the case.
She also says if anyone has any information they need to contact Constable Sean Rocca because he’s the full-time investigator on her sister’s case.
