UPDATE: Waterloo Street Fire Injures Three People

A man has been taken to hospital after an early morning fire at a six-unit apartment building in Saint John.

Joe Armstrong, deputy fire chief, says they were called to the building on Waterloo Street shortly before 5 a.m. Monday.

Armstrong said two other people were treated at the scene for minor smoke inhalation.

He said the fire was quickly under control but the second-floor apartment where it started received major damage.

There is also minor smoke and water damage elsewhere in the building.

Armstrong said the cause of the fire is still being investigated.

Waterloo Street was closed for a couple of hours but reopened shortly after 7 a.m. Monday.
