Wear the colour teal to support sexual violence victims: Charlotte County Abuse Prevention Network

The Charlotte County Abuse Prevention Network (CCAPN) is asking the community to wear the colour teal on Friday, May 31.

Sam Gullison, CCAPN sexual violence community coordinator, says it’s the national colour for Sexual Violence Awareness Month.

Friday is dubbed ‘Wear Teal Day’. It’s an initiative created by CCAPN to raise awareness, share information, and show support to all survivors of sexual violence in Charlotte County.

“When they’re out in the community and they see a community response of people wearing teal, it can be empowering and validating for them,” said Gullison.

CCAPN also reports there were 38 sexual assaults and other violations reported to RCMP just in Charlotte County.

Editor’s note: An earlier version of this story incorrectly quoted Sam Gullison as saying the community response was ‘invalidating’ for victims. We apologize for the error.
