In the Majors, Tampa Bay pitcher Chris Archer limited the Blue Jays to three hits over eight innings in a 4-3 win……Philadelphia rookie Maikel Franco drove in five runs as the Phillies beat the Yankees again 11-6…..Baltimore downed the Red Sox 6-4 as David Lough hit a three run homer for the O’s.

In the National League, Stephen Strasburg returned from the D-L and pitched 5 scoreless innings as Washington defeats Atlanta 4-1. The Dodgers stay 1 game up on the Giants in the West despite losing 1-0 to the Chicago Cubs in 10 innings while San Francisco loses to San Diego 3-2 in 11 innings….St. Louis moves 22 games above .500 with the best record in baseball after a 4-3 win over Miami.

In the Women’s World Cup, Japan makes it through to the quarter-finals with a 2-1 win over the Netherlands and will take on Australia. The quarter-finals start Friday.
