A fair amount of anger and suspicion coming from those attending a public meeting on the subject of water.
The West Side Ratepayers Association hosted the meeting on the safety of city drinking water which included a panel of government experts.
Kevin Chipman lives on Allingham Crescent and tells our newsroom he’s been dealing with itchy skin for over two months and he blames the water change.
“It’s all over my body, not just my arms. My back, my butt, my feet, my legs,” Chipman said.
Several others also spoke of having skin problems.
The Medical Officer of Health for the South Region, Dr. Issac Sobol suggested everyone experiencing issues with their skin go to their family doctors and get referred to a dermatologist.
He plans to follow up on this.
Meanwhile, the crowd heard that the water quality is much better now with the South Bay wellfield with chlorine levels a fraction of what they were when the city used Spruce Lake as its drinking water source.
Association Chair Paul Groody said his first take on information released by the city late yesterday afternoon on the quality of the drinking water was ‘very positive’.
