What Should The Living Wage Be In New Brunswick?

We know what people working for minimum wage earn but what does a living wage look like? That question is going to be answered soon by the Saint John Human Development Council which is going to release the figure later this year.

It’s Executive-Director Randy Hatfield says a living wage is calculated as the amount of money a family of four with two full time working adults would need to adequately provide for themselves and their two children.

The living wage in Halifax for instance is considered to be 20 dollars and 10 cents per hour. In Vancouver, the living wage is just over 20 dollars and sixty cents, in Toronto it’s at 18 dollars and fifty cents.

Hatfield says the current minimum wage in New Brunswick at $10.65 an hour is insufficient.
