It seems the Bay of Fundy region is not just a popular spot for humans to pay a visit.
Crystal, a 10-foot-long white shark, pinged in off the coast of Saint John on Monday evening.
That is according to a non-profit group called Ocearch, which tags and tracks sharks.
Crystal is a juvenile shark who weighs approximately 460 pounds, according to the group’s website.
She became the 84th shark sampled and tagged in their Western North Atlantic White Shark Study after being spotted off the North Carolina coast in March.
“We collected samples for 25 different science projects including blood and muscle samples, as well as the attachment of a SPOT tag and a biologger package that was deployed for 16 hours,” said the group’s website.
Crystal is named after North Carolina’s Crystal Coast, a stretch of beaches located near where the group was able to sample and tag her.
The white shark has been quite active in our region over the past few weeks. She first pinged in off the coast of Maine in mid-June.
Crystal was then recorded off Nova Scotia’s South Shore on June 30, southeast of Halifax on July 3, and again off the South Shore on July 8.
