Who Will Be Canada’s Next Governor General?

Canada has been without a governor general since January of this year after the resignation of Julie Payette.

No official date has been identified yet as to when a replacement will be named.

Intergovernmental Affairs Minister Dominic LeBlanc expects it will be soon, but wouldn’t give a firm date.

“We gave the prime minister a list of somewhere between one and 10 extraordinary Canadians and we expect to have some announcements in due course in the not so distant future,” said LeBlanc.

Payette resigned following a workplace review investigating allegations of harassment.

Leblanc says, “The prime minister has reflected on the list of names we have given him and we expect, not too long from now, Canadians will know the outstanding person who will assume the job of governor general.”

Chief Justice Richard Wagner is currently performing the duties of the office as the administrator of Canada.
