Will New Brunswick Get A February Holiday?

Does New Brunswick need a statutory holiday in February?

The Gallant government is looking at the idea since most Canadians are now enjoying a day off work and school on the third Monday of the month.

Moncton Centre MLA Chris Collins says stakeholders must be consulted first.

Collins believes it may actually be beneficial to the economy with families doing things like skiing and enjoying New Brunswick in the winter.

Greater Moncton Chamber of Commerce CEO Carol O’Reilly says businesses are generally not in favour of another stat holiday.

“If you asked a business owner on a personal level, they may say yes but on a business level, there is a loss of revnue for businesses,” she notes.

As the month draws to a close, the Gallant government is still weighing the pros and cons of having a February stat holiday.
